Diamonds have to be certified

What is the purpose of certifying diamonds and what does a certificate tell us? Firstly the certificate which accompanies your diamond purchase tells you that you are buying a bona fide product because of the information contained on it and this tells you whether or not your diamond is real, it tells you how many carat weight the diamond is, what colour it is what the clarity is and how it has been cut and its measurements.

Without this report, you could be buying a piece of glass and not be aware of it. Certificates are issued by independent organisations who are not involved in selling or buying.

When you purchase a diamond from Marlows you will have the peace of mind that you are dealing with a reputable and recognised diamond dealer.

Your certificate also decides the value of your diamond according to international pricing structures. Without this report you will not be able to insure your diamond, or for that matter sell it to a reputable dealer.

It is wise to keep in mind that any diamond has a value, and its value is dictated by its accompanying certificate. If you have difficulty obtaining a certificate at the time of purchase, you may have to re-think who you are doing business with.

Diamond measurements directly determine how large a diamond looks to the naked eye. Carat weight tells you how heavy a stone is, not how big it appears. Two diamonds can weigh the same and yet look completely different in size on the hand.
