Why You Should Choose Certified Diamond Engagement Ring

Buying a quality Diamond Engagement Ring is a complicated task, and we understand that you want to feel confident about your purchase as it is an important investment. This blog aims to discuss why you should buy certified diamonds over non-certified ones. Certified diamonds are graded, and their quality is verified by an independent, respected gemological laboratory. Certification can add value to the diamond as it is an official record and unquestionable verification of the diamond ‘s quality. It’s your guarantee of quality as usually only the best quality diamonds have been certified by a gemological institute. Certification means:

  • The diamond is verified as being 100% natural or enhanced.
  • The quality of the diamond (cut, colour, clarity and carat) meets a certain standard in the opinion of a qualified, experienced gemologist.

At Marlow’s Diamonds, our large range of diamonds are certified from internationally recognized bodies such as GIA America. A certified diamond has been through a grading process. Have a look at how it has been judged on these four factors:

CUT

Most people often think cut refers to a diamond’s shape (cushion, round, square, etc.) but it actually defines how well a diamond has been cut, referring to its proportions, and therefore how much it will sparkle. When a diamond is finely cut, it shines the best, and if it is poorly cut, it appears dull and lifeless. The cut is the most important factor to consider when looking for a quality Diamond Engagement Ring as it has a great impact on its radiance.

COLOUR

The whiter and colourless diamonds are the most expensive and valuable. The best colour grade available is ‘D’ and as the grades progress through to ‘Z’, you will see more and more of a yellow tint. Never confuse this yellow tint with fancy diamonds; fancy coloured diamonds have their own grading scale. To buy colourless diamonds, experts suggest colour grades of ‘G’ or higher.

CLARITY

The clarity grade describes the number of inclusions that may be visible within a diamond. Clarity is graded on a scale of ‘flawless’ to ‘imperfect’. Inclusions are natural flaws that form during the stone’s creation over millions of years. The diamond which is eye clean and graded SI1 or higher are the best ones to buy.

CARAT

The weight of the diamond rather than its dimensions is referred to as carat. Carat is denoted by ‘CT’: 1ct = 0.2 gram 5ct = 1 gram. To make the most of your budget, it is recommended to choose a carat weight slight below the whole and half-carat marks, this is when the dimensions of the diamond become relevant to how you purchase.
